Agate is one of the most creatively striped gemstones by nature. Chalcedony quartz forms in concentric layers in a wide variety of colors and textures. Agate forms by filling a cavity in a host rock. As a result, agate is often found with concentric bands like the rings of a tree trunk. The bands sometimes look like eyes, fanciful swirls and scallops.
