This is an unusually large vintage, early 1950's Walborg black leather satchel or doctors bag with gorgeous floral needlepoint on both sides of the bag, gold colored frame, and solid brass lock. The satchel has 4 brass feet to protect the bottom and the corners. The needlepoint is flawless with no missing stitches. This purse has one main interior compartment with an additional zippered pocket and two slip pockets on the interior side walls. The interior and exterior are clean and have no stains, damage, or odor. Handle drop is 9" and this makes the handle long enough to carry this as a purse on your arm or on your shoulder. This is certainly the largest Walborg purse we have ever seen. Dimensions are: 13.25"W (at base) x 8"H x 5"D. Handle drop 9". At the widest point the purse measures 15"W.
Walborg Company History
Hilde Walborg Weinberg founded her company in the late 1940's in New York city. Ms. Walborg designed all of her bags herself, only using the finest materials and manufacturing processes available at the time. By the 1950's she had made quite a name for herself and she was the hot designer of the day attending many famous social events. In January 1954 she celebrated the opening of her new showroom on 149 Madison Avenue in New York. In the 1960's the Walborg Corporation had many special bead designs manufactured overseas such as Hong Kong or China. There is no company information available after 1963.
